Chassis:
The very first DN5 produced, chassis 1A was raced exclusively by Jean-Pierre Jarier. He debuted the car at the season opening Argentinean Grand Prix at Buenos Aires. He immediately claimed the pole position but a differential failure on the warm-up lap meant that the Frenchman could not start the race. After failing to reach the finish in the next two Grands Prix, Jarier finished fourth in the Spanish Grand Prix at Montjuich. The contemporary career of DN5-1A ended with a big crash at Monaco. Eventually restored to full running order, this Shadow DN5 returned to Monaco for the biennial Historic Grand Prix, again driven by a Frenchman.
