Chassis: M29-5
This, the fifth M29, was the second and final example produced in 1980. It was first used by Alain Prost in August for the German Grand Prix where he placed a lowly 11th. A week later, the Frenchman finished seventh. He lined up once more with chassis M29-5 but following a crash in practice did not actually start the US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. New signing Andrea de Cesaris raced the repaired car four more times at the start of 1981 with an 11th as the only result. Retained by McLaren, it was loaned for many years to the Donington Grand Prix Collection.
