Chassis:
Shortly after taking delivery of this Birdcage, owner David F. Causey sent it to Bob Webb, who revised the tail. The work was ready in time for the car's debut at the 1960 Sebring 12 Hours. Unfortunately, a gearbox failure ended the race early for Causey and co-driver Luke Stear. They continued to race the car with some success in SCCA events. Its final contemporary outing came a year after its debut at Sebring where Causey and Stear once again failed to reach the finish. Prominent collectors Giuseppe Lucchini and Anthony Bamford owned this Tipo 61 before it was acquired by Nick Mason in the 1980s. Still boasting the modified tail and white with blue-stripes finish, chassis 2457 has since been raced regularly by Mason, Mark Hales and more recently sports car ace Marino Franchitti.
