Chassis:
Built in December of 1960, this was the last Birdcage completed that year. Finished in red, it was sold new to Jack Hinkle of Wichita, Kansas. He campaigned the car throughout the 1961 season in SCCA events with considerable success. Hinkle sold the car on to Tracy Bird, who continued to campaign it as late as 1964. A fire in his garage damaged the car and he acquired the ex-Roger Penske chassis 2471 to repair his own Birdcage. Among its subsequent owners was Lord Alexander Hesketh of Formula 1 fame. Between the late 1990s and 2003, it was raced by Tony Smith. Chassis 2470 was then sold through Wolfgan Baeumer to a German historic racer, who continued to campaign the car until the end of the decade.
