Chassis:
The very last Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage built, chassis 2472 was entrusted to the Camoradi team for the 1961 season. Although it failed to finish in Sebring, it scored a victory at the Nürburgring 1000 km in the hands of Masten Gregory and Lloyd 'Lucky' Casner himself. Casner also won one of the two heats of the Rouen Grand Prix. He shared the car with Piero Drogo at the Rouen 4 Hours, where an accident ended the car's race early. Drogo then set about rebuilding the car with a completely redesigned body and also added a double-wishbone rear suspension. In this guise, it was raced by Casner several more times but with little success. Chassis 2472 was returned to the factory, where it remained until the entire collection was acquired by Umberto Panini.
