Chassis:
The first SE89C built, this example was sold to Chamberlain Engineering, who fielded the car under the Team Istel banner in the British C2 Championship. Driven by Tim Harvey, joined by either Lawrence Bristow or Duncan Bain, it was hugely successful during the 1989 season taking eight wins. Chassis 001 was then upgraded to C1 specification by installing a Cosworth DFZ engine and raced in the World Sports Car Championship. In 1991, it was raced at Le Mans with a Financial Times livery. Sadly an electrics issue prevented it from finishing the race. In 1992, it won the FIA Cup and it was then raced again at Le Mans in 1993. An engine failure brought an end to the car's long period racing history. Subsequently restored to its 1991 Le Mans colours, it has returned to the track with select outings in historic events.
