Chassis:
One of the new cars built for the 1954 season, this is the first of two fitted with a coupe body. Roy Salvadori debuted the car at Silverstone with a seventh. It then crashed out at Le Mans where the coupe body proved unstable at high speeds. For the 1955 season, it was rebuilt to the latest specification with a new roadster body, Girling disc brakes on all four corners and off-set Borrani wire wheels. With Parnell at the wheel, it was driven to victory at Silverstone in May of 1955. Peter Collins and Paul Frere then raced the car to second overall and first in class at Le Mans. It was raced by the works team through to the end of the 1955 season. It was then updated to the latest body configuration and sold to Graham Whitehead. Along with his half-brother Peter as co-driver, it was driven to another second place finish at Le Mans in 1958. One of the most successful of all DB3S chassis, this car is today owned by a British collector with close ties to Aston Martin. Regularly demonstrated at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it was driven on the hill by Stirling Moss in 2008 and Tony Brooks in 2013.
