Chassis:
The second of four 97Ts produced, this example was allocated to Ayrton Senna for the first six Grands Prix of the 1985 season.He retired from the Brazilian Grand Prix but then qualified on pole position with 97T/2 at the Portuguese Grand Prix. In wet conditions, the Brazilian scored his maiden victory at Estoril. It was also the first Grand Prix victory for Team Lotus since the passing of Colin Chapman in 1982. Senna followed up the victory in Portugal with further pole positions in San Marino and the United States. Retired after the Grand Prix of the USA at Detroit, the two-time winning 97T was retained by Team Lotus. Now part of the Classic Team Lotus fleet, it was restored to full-running order in 2003. Chassis 97T/2 is regularly demonstrated at events like to Goodwood Festival of Speed.
