Chassis:
The first of two Mirage GR8s built in 1975, chassis GR8/801 brought the big success success at last for the Gulf Racing Team; Derek Bell and Jackie Ickx piloted it to victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The winning machine was sold to Harley Cluxton, who entered the car in various guises in the next four Le Mans races under the Grand Touring Cars ltd. banner. It only managed to complete the race once, in 1976, when Derek Bell and Vern Schuppan finished fifth. Among its various metamorphosis were the Renault Mirage M9 and the long-tail Mirage M10. After its retirement it was eventually restored back to its Le Mans winning configuration. It is seen here at the Blackhawk Museum in 2007, between its sister chassis and the only surviving Mirage M1. The Le Mans winning Mirage has since joined the ROFGO Collection.
