Chassis:
Built to Formula 2 specification, this car was originally fitted with the one-litre BRM P80 engine. In this guise, it was fielded by the Matra Sports team during the 1966 season. Among its drivers that year were Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Jo Schlesser. For the 1967, it was fitted with a larger, 1.6-litre Ford Cosworth twin-cam engine. That year, it was entered for Johnny Servoz-Gavin in the Monaco Grand Prix. Racing against proper Formula 1 cars, he qualified a commendable 11th but sadly retired after just four laps with injection issues. Still in 1967 configuration, chassis 04 was demonstrated at the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed where Matra was one of the featured marques.
