Chassis:
One of the five Bergspyders built and originally fitted with a flat-eight engine, this car was driven to a debut victory at the Solitude hillclimb by Gerhard Mitter. A month later, Mitter placed the car second overall in the Schauinsland Hill Climb, which was part of the European Championship. Not raced by the factory again, it was re-engined and sold to American privateer racer Charlie Kolb. He first campaigned the car in the late 1965 Bahamas Speed week where he placed fourth overall and first in class in both the Governor's Trophy and Nassau Trophy races. During the 1966 season, he used the car to score several SCCA National and Regional wins. Retired from contemporary racing at the end of the year, the car remained in the United States for most of its life. One of two 904 Bergspyders known to have survived, it was meticulously restored during the late 1990s and raced in the Monterey Historics. In more recent years, it joined a prominent German collection.
