Chassis:
This Competition Cobra 427 was sold to the son of the then South Carolina governor for use on the road and track. He found the car too wild and was sold just two months after taking delivery to George Butler from New London, Connecticut. Butler took the car to the track, and it was then raced by subsequent owners in SCCA and other events with considerable success by subsequent owners through to 1971. An accident ended its contemporary racing career and it was acquired in 1978 by its longtime custodian without an engine. He found the chassis and body to be in good condition and he had the car repaired and prepared for historic racing. Having shown and raced the car, he sold it in 1986 to Steve Prewitt, who would go on to own it for 25 years. It was then bought back from Prewitt's estate by the same enthusiast in 2011.
