Chassis:
A works car, this 911 ST was completed early in 1970 and was specifically prepared for rally racing with a short-ratio gearbox and 100-litre fuel tank. It was driven to a debut victory by Bjorn Waldegaard in the Austrian Alps Rally. This win was instrumental in securing the Championship for Porsche. Chassis 911 030 0949 was subsequently used by Jurgen Barth as a service car on the 1970 Acropolis and 1971 Monte Carlo rallies. Shortly after, it was sold to Gerard Larrousse, who campaigned it extensively during the 1971 season. He also fielded the car for Barth in that year's Tour de France but an engine failure ended the German's charge early. It was sold to another French enthusiast in 1972 and after change hands once more, it was sold back to Germany before the end of the 1970s. In 1997, it was acquired by American historic racer Roy Walzer. He had the car completely restored, using plastic fender flares and a replacement, 2.5-litre engine. It was finished in the psychedelic Shell livery used by Larrousse during the 1971 season. Chassis 911 030 0949 has subsequently been regularly raced for Walzer by Jurgen Barth himself. In more recent years, it was acquired by the current owner, who consigned it to Gooding's 2016 Amelia Island sale.
