Chassis:
One of the 43 M1s built to Procar specification, this example was delivered to Osella Squadra Corse ahead of the 1979 season. Entered under the BMW Italia banner and boasting Denim sponsoring, it was raced by Bruno Giacomelli and Elio de Angeles. In eight rounds, the two Italians scored six championship points between them. At the end of the year, it was sold to the United States where it was raced by Kenper Miller and David Cowart. Finished in the famous Red Lobster livery, it was particularly successful in 1981 when Miller and Cowart won the very competitive GTO class of the IMSA GT Championship. In 1982 and 1983, it was raced with considerable success by Diego Montoya, the father of Indy 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya. In 1987, it returned to Europe and has since been meticulously prepared for historic racing. Having spent time in Belgian hands, it was raced by a French enthusiast during the first half of the 2010s. It was subsequently acquired by former Formula 1 racer Gerhard Berger. He sold the car to a German enthusiast, who had Tim Samways prepare the car. In 2022, chassis 4301040 was offered for sale by Henderson Fellowes.
