Chassis:
Completed late in 1953, this is the third and final Aston Martin DB2/4 clothed by Bertone with this striking Spider bodywork. It was shipped to the United States, where it arrived late in January of 1954 and in time for its Chicago Motor Show debut. The car caused quite a stir in the 'Windy City' and was shortly thereafter acquired by Phil Stewart, who raced for Arnolt in North America. He owned the car only briefly, selling it on to Mercury Marine owner and pioneering NASCAR team owner Carl Kiekhaefer. He is believed to have raced the Aston Martin in minor events, amidst winning back-to-back NASCAR championships in 1955 and 1956.
Kiekhaefer would own the car through to April of 1958, when it was acquired by Peter Luan. He also raced the striking Bertone-bodied Aston Martin in local events. Luan retained the car for eleven years and it then passed to a noted American collector, who would go on to own LML/507 for 38 years. When the car changed hands once more in the late 2000s, it was still in highly original condition with just 15,000 miles on the odometer. It was sold again at auction in 2011 and today remains as the only one of the three Bertone Spiders that has never been completely restored.
