Chassis:
Shown at the 1962 Turin Motor Show, this is the second long wheelbase 400 Superamerica built. Following its motor show duties, it was delivered to its first owner, American banker Erwin Goldschmidt of German descent, in December of that year. He took delivery of the car in Davos, Switzerland and toured the European roads for nearly 2,000 km before shipping it to the United States. Following Goldschmidt's death in 1970, the car passed to his son Tony, who would retain the car until 2003. It was then briefly owned by collector Ron Pratte before it was acquired by fellow American collector Lee Herrington. He would retain the car for nearly a decade and he showed it at select events. Its most recent custodian bought the car from Herrington at auction in 2012. Chassis 3949SA was then comprehensively restored by Butch Dennison and finished in a metallic blue with a tan interior. While not the car's original colour combination, the hues picked were available from Pininfarina in period.
