Chassis:
Earmarked to be displayed as a bare chassis at the 1935 Paris Auto Salon, this 500 K had been finished to a very high standard with additional chroming. It was acquired at the show by an enthusiast from California, who immediately after had the rolling chassis delivered to the nearby Saoutchik workshop. He remained in Europe to monitor the design and construction of the particularly striking Cabriolet body very closely. Upon its completion, the exquisite 500 K Saoutchik Cabriolet was shipped to the United States. It remained in the ownership of the same family through to 1959. It then passed through various hands before it was acquired by the most recent owner in 1989. Beautifully restored, the car has not been shown at major events in the last decades and has now been consigned in the dedicated Bonhams Mercedes-Benz sale.
