Chassis:
The very first Aston Martin Formula 1 car, chassis DBR4/1 was allocated to Roy Salvadori for the 1959 season. He immediately placed second at the International Trophy at Silverstone but in the World Championship rounds, he could fair no better than a sixth in the British and Portuguese Grands Prix. Like all of its surviving sister cars, chassis DBR4/1 eventually ended up in Australia. It was acquired by Lex Davison, who used it as a spare for DBR4/4, which proved so dependable that he never had to campaign DBR4/1 in anger. During the 1970s, it was acquired by the great historic racer Patrick Lindsay, who had it restored to full running order. He campaigned the car extensively before selling it on to Aston Martin enthusiast Geoffrey Marsh. He had the car famously raced in historic events by Gerry Marshall. In more recent years, it has been part of the collection of a German historic racer that also includes a DBR1, DB3S and DB4 GT, among others.
