Chassis:
One of three new 'Evolution' works cars built ahead of the 1997 season, this car was allocated to Hans-Joachim Stuck and Thierry Boutsen for the FIA GT Championship during the second half of the year. It actually debuted at Le Mans, were it was driven by Emmanuel Collard, Ralf Kelleners and Yannick Dalmas. A fire ended their charge early. In the FIA GT Championship, Stuck and Boutsen could do no better than a fourth at Mugello. The car was then sold to Champion Motors, who fielded in the 1998 Sebring 12 Hours. Driven by Boutsen, Bob Wollek and Andy Pilgrim, it finished an impressive third overall. In the remaining ALMS races, it won the GT1 class on three occasions. Champion campaigned the ex-works car through to the end of the 1999 season. It made its final contemporary appearance as an entry for Gunnar Racing in the 2001 Daytona 24 Hours, where it was shared by Gunnar Jeannette, Wayne Jackson, Mike Brockman and Paul Newman. Sadly, chassis 005 suffered from an oil leak early in the race. It was sold back to Europe, and in 2016 was shown at the Techno Classica by dealer Jan Lühn. It subsequently joined a prominent French collection and was restored to its works livery and configuration by JMB Classic. In 2023, it was pressed back into action, competing at the Le Mans Classic.
