Chassis:
The pictured chassis 189441 or 'car 11' was unusual in that it was used predominantly as a hillclimb and record breaker before the War. It was only turned into Grand Prix specification after the War. Juan Manuel Fangio drove it to third in one of the Argentinean races. It was the start of a cooperation that would eventually lead to two F1 titles for Mercedes-Benz and Fangio. This W154 has been preserved and is still owned by Mercedes-Benz. It is shown during the 2006 Essen Motor Show and on display in 2008 at 'Mercdes-Benz World' on the Brooklands grounds near London, England.
