Chassis:
One of four 3.0 CSLs built to Group 5 specification for the 1976 World Championship, this car was campaigned in the famous 'Gösser Beer' colours by the BMW Schnitzer works team. Hugely successful, it won the rounds at the Nürburgring and Österreichring in the hands of Dieter Quester with Albrecht Krebs and Gunner Nilsson respectively. It was also raced that year by Ronnie Peterson and helped BMW claim second in the manufacturers' table behind Porsche. Despite being their most successful car of the 1976 season, BMW sold chassis 2275982 to a privateer from Czechoslovakia, who raced the car in his home country, Germany and Austria throughout 1977. At the end of the year, it was sold to a businessman from Jakarta, Indonesia. It remained in Asia until it was acquired by a British enthusiast in 2002. He had it meticulously restored and it has since been regularly raced in historic events. Of the four works cars built in 1976, this is one of three survivors. In the spring of 2016, it was offered by German trader Jan Lühn.
