Chassis:
Equipped with a 375hp Chevrolet small-block V8 and three long distance fuel tanks, this Cheetah was built from the ground up for racing. It was acquired new Clarence Dixon Cadillac for owner Jack Goodman to race. As a result, it was often referred to as the Cheetah Cadillac, even though it was never powered by a Cadillac engine. In April of 1965, it was re-engined by Bill Thomas himself. The new engine was a big block Chevrolet V8, good for 425 bhp. To cope with the additional power, a Muncie M22 'rockcrusher' gearbox, dual radiators and sturdier front disc brakes were also fitted. In 1967, it was fitted with an even more powerful L88 engine that was built and blue-printed by Thomas. In this guise, the Cheetah raced through to 1969 by several drivers. In the hands of Jim Phillips won the 1968 SCCA A/SR Championship in the South Pacific region. In 1972, it was placed into storage. In 1993, Robert Auxier of Bill Thomas Motors first learned of the car. He spent the next two decades trying to convince the owner to even show him the car. It would be until November 29, 2014 when Auxier first saw the car and was allowed to buy it. He spent the next year to restore the big-block Cheetah in time for the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
