Chassis:
This 312 T4 was bought from the factory in September of 1981 by favoured Ferrari customer Dr Carlo Bonomi. It was allocated chassis number 037, which was used during the 1979 season by Gilles Villeneuve to win the South African and Long Beach Grands Prix. At the end of the World Championship winning seasons, Ferrari dismantled three T4s, including chasis 037, and rebuilt them as 312 T5s for the title defence. When Bonomi inquired if he could buy one of the altogether more successful T4s, the factory decided to use the parts still available to rebuilt one of the cars as a T4. Whether the chassis fitted in the rebuilt was actually the same as first used in 1979 is not known. It is most likely that that tub is still in 312 T5 configuration as chassis 042. Bonomi owned the car into the 1990s when it was sold to an enthusiast in New Zeeland through Duncan Hamilton. It has since been sold to the United States, where it has been maintained in full running order.
