Chassis:
This was the first new chassis built in 1971. Chassis R6 did not race until the second half the season when it was used to some effect by Reine Wisell. In 1972 it was mostly raced by Dave Walker, who could do no better than fifth in the Brazilian Grand Prix. It was not until the 1973 season and after it was entrusted to Ronnie Peterson that chassis R6 finally became successful. The talented Swede scored four Grand Prix wins that year in this car. At the end of the year it was sold to Ian Scheckter, who enjoyed considerable success with it in local, South African event. Chassis R6's long career finally came to a close after another season of South African races in the hands of Eddie Keizan. Today this Lotus 72 is regularly campaigned and seen here at a variety of events.
