Chassis:
One of the very last Lotus 15s built, this example was sold new through Lotus distributors Grand Prix Import Cars from Rutherford, New Jersey and Suburban Foreign Car Services from Pennsylvania to Tom Fleming. He the landlord of Suburban Foreign Car Services and also an accomplished privateer racer, who was also regularly found behind the wheel of Ferraris. Fleming first raced the car at the 1959 Nassau speed week and then campaigned the car in North America with considerable success through to summer of 1961. Subsequent owner John Willock continued to race chassis 627/3 for several more seasons.
In 1970, it was acquired by USA-based, British historic racer Murray Smith, who campaigned the car in historic events. The next owner was Stephen Griswold, who briefly raced the car in 1979 before selling it on in 1981 to German Peter Kaus for his Rosso Bianco museum. The car was on display until 1997 when it was acquired by British historic racer Hugh Taylor. He campaigned the car in a wide variety of events for eighteen years. During the mid-2010s, the next owner had the car comprehensively restored by specialists Twyman Racing. Raced in the Goodwood Revival, Silverstone Classic and Le Mans Classic in 2016, it was sold by Girardo & Co. in the spring of 2017 and continued to be raced.
