Chassis:
Discovered in Sicily during the 1940s, this early Type 35 has provided historians with something to ponder. At the time, it featured an original Type 35 chassis plate with the number 4491 stamped over 4451. Both were numbers of Type 35s sold to Italy in 1925, and may have been switched out for carnet reasons. The car boasted engine number 25, which had originally been fitted to 4451. This was mounted in a period correct replacement chassis, built by Bugatti in 1927. It is most likely that the car was rebuilt in 1927 with a new chassis perhaps due to accident damage. What is certain that the car has been untouched since the 1930s. Among its subsequent owners were legendary collectors like Count Giovanni Lurani, Corrado Cuppelini, Josef Siffert, Rob Walker and Ton Meijer. Since the mid-1980s, it has been part of the stable of a Dutch enthusiast. In 2017, it was consigned to the Artcurial Automobiles sur les Champs sale.
