Chassis:
Entered in the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans for Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton, this is the first of three Lightweight specification C-Types built. The all-British entry scored a record breaking victory, beating the sister car by four laps. Rolt and Hamilton then raced the car in the Tourist Trophy but a gearbox issue forced XKC 051 to retire early. For the 1954 season, the Le Mans winning C-Type was sold to Ecurie Ecosse, who campaigned the car with considerable success on the British isles that year. The car was then raced by Bill Smith in 1955 and had its final contemporary outing in 1956 with Geoffrey Allison behind the wheel. Among the subsequent owners was legendary American collector Brigss Cunningham, whose own Cunningham had been beaten by XKC 051 to third at Le Mans back in 1953. Cunningham then fittingly sold the Le Mans winning C-Type to Duncan Hamilton's son Adrian during the 1980s.
