Along with the first XJR-6, this, the second car, example debuted at the 1985 Mosport 1000 km round. Shared by Jean-Louis Schlesser, Martin Brundle and Mike Thackwell, it was driven to a very impressive third overall at its very first outing. For a variety of reasons, the car did not reach the finish again at the remaining outings during the 1985 season. For the following year, it was set aside to make way for fresh XJR-6s. This car later re-appeared in historic racing, competing in the historic Group C championship in the early 2000s. Late in 2018, it was consigned as one of the headliners of the Bonhams Bond Street sale.
