Chassis:
One of just six GL chassis known to exist today, this 'Grand Luxe' was fitted with a Labourdette Skiff body from new. Constructed from wood with techniques normally used for boats, these Skiffs were among the most exclusive machines available in period. Due to the delicate nature of the materials used, only very few have survived.
Little is known about the early history of this particular car. During the 1970s it was discovered by British restorer Paul Grist in the collection of Sir Francis Samuelson. Apparently he used the rare Delage as a breakdown recovery vehicle. Most of the body had nevertheless survived unscathed and the car was subjected to a full restoration. Upon completion the Labourdette Delage made in appearance in the 1981 motion pictured 'Chariots of Fire.'
In 2005 chassis 15427 was invited for the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance for a special 'Skiff' class. The Grand Luxe Delage was subsequently mechanically and cosmetically restored once again. Since then it was awarded the Participants Choice award in the 2007 Kirkland Concours d'Elegance and at Pebble in 2008 it won 'Best in Class' and the 'French Cup.' A year later the owner decided to part with the rare Delage and offered it during Gooding's Pebble Beach Auction. It sold for, a rather disappointing, $660,000.
