Chassis:
The fifteenth of seventeen three-louvre Tour de France Ferraris built, chassis 0879GT was acquired new by German racer Wolfgang Seidel. He took delivery of the car in Bologna in March of 1958. He raced the car with considerable success for more than a year. Among the victories scored was an outright win in the Eifelrennen at the Nürburgring. For the 1958 Reims 12 Hours, Seibel partnered with his compatriot Wolfgang von Trips with whom he also raced a 250 TR for the Scuderia Ferrari. In the second half of 1959, chassis 0879GT was sold to fellow German Manfred Ramminger, who only briefly raced the Ferrari. During the first half of the 1960s, it changed hands twice more. The fourth owner was a Gary Schmidt, who modified the car with open headlights and shortened rear fenders. Following several outings, it then passed to Swedish enthusiast Christer Mellin in 1973. He spent the next two decades collecting parts before starting a complete restoration in 1993. Shortly after the work was completed, it was sold to an Italian custodian in 1997. He campaigned the car extensively during its first years of his ownership. Not seen much in public during the 2000s and 2010s, it was consigned to the 2018 RM Sotheby's Monaco sale.
