Chassis:
A works car, this competition Stratos was originally finished in the rare Group 5 specification. Built at a time before the arrival of the turbo-charged, silhouette racers that came later in the decade, the most substantial change was the use of fuel injection. The Stratos debuted the car with Arturo Merzario at the wheel in the 1974 Giro d'Italia. Unfortunately, 'Little Art' was forced to retire the car before the end of the event. Rebuilt to Group 4 specifications by subsequent owner and privateer racing team Jolly Club, it then embarked on a lengthy rally racing career starting with the 1975 Tour de France. From 1979, it was fielded by the Caroche team and its final contemporary outings came in 1982 with Klippan Competition as the entrants. During the late 1980s, it joined the collection of a Swiss enthusiast. He would go on to own the car for around three decades before selling it to the current custodian in the mid 2010s.
