Chassis:
The fourth and final Lotus 78 built, this example was pressed into service for Gunnar Nilsson from the German Grand Prix in July of 1977. The talented Swede raced the car five times during the remainder of the season but for a variety of reasons never managed to reach the finish. For the 1978 season, chassis 78/4 was sold to Hector Rebaque. The Mexican campaigned the car in the European rounds of the World Championship. The best result was a sixth in the German Grand Prix. In more recent years, the car was campaigned by Classic Team Lotus for Japanese racer and collector Katsu Kubota. Over the winter of 2017/2018, the car passed to another Japanese historic racer. He first raced the car at the 2018 Monaco Historic Grand Prix.
