Chassis:
Using the formidable Siata 208 S underpinnings, Carrozzeria Bertone created this one-off 208 Corsa Spyder. Its design reflects the Italian coach-builder's interest and expertise in aerodynamics. The blade-edge front fenders are particularly interesting as they both allow for ample brake cooling and to extract engine heat effectively from the engine bay. Once it was completed early in 1952, it was entered by none other than Nuccio Bertone himself in the Mille Miglia. He did not actually take the start but did race it in the Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti and the XIV Aosta-Gran San Bernardo. In 1953, it was brought to the United States for the New York Motor Show. It was bought off the stand by John Perona, who used the car on the road and track. During the early 1960s, it was acquired by John Holman of Holman & Moody fame. His plans with the car with put on the back burner as his company was ever more deeply involved in the Ford GT40 program. The car was eventually acquired by marque expert Jarl de Boer. in 2014, the unique Corsa Spyder was sold to 8V enthusiast Jan de Reu, who also managed to find the original 8V engine that had been removed during the early 1960s. A restoration was started, which was eventually completed under the custodianship of the next owner. The work was ready in time for the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where it won first in class.
