Chassis:
The penultimate 8 Litre Bentley built, this example was ordered new by J.A. Player of cigarette manufacturer fame. He had the car fitted with a closed saloon body that was built in aluminium by Vanden Plas using the Weyman patented 'Silent Bloc' lightweight construction method. Player would own this Bentley for four years and it was then sold to Ireland. The 8 Litre Bentley returned to the UK in 1936 where it remained until 1955 but did change hands several times. It was then sold to a Bruce Fagan, who was based in California. Several years later, in 1962, it was acquired at auction by G. Clayton Greene of Concord, Massachusetts. It has remained in his family's ownership for over five decades during which it was used extensively in Bentley rallies all over North America. By Greene's family it was consigned to the 2018 Bonhams Quail Lodge sale.
