No early history is known of this Bearcat. It was not discovered until the 1970s when an aerial survey photography pilot and car enthusiast spotted the car on a farm in Montana. It was in rough condition but enough of the car was left to start a restoration. This turned out to be a very lengthy process due to the difficulty of obtaining the correct replacements for the parts that were no longer with the car. By 2004, it was eventually acquired by a collector who had found the car in a restoration shop. He re-started the work but it still took another nine years before the Stutz was back in its original configuration. A few years after the restoration was completed, it was sold and this owner then consigned the car to the 2018 Bonhams sale at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum.
