Chassis:
This rare 356 Carrera 2 Cabriolet was finished in signal red with a black interior. Completed in April of 1963, it was sold new to a German company called Hallreiter & Vieten. It changed hands several times before leaving its country of origin in 1986 to join a Dutch collector for which it was carefully re-painted. It remained there until 1989, when it was acquired by a Danish Porsche collector. At that time, the original engine had been removed and replaced by a correct type 587/1 engine. The Danish custodian set out to track down the original engine and eventually found it in Belgium. The engine was rebuilt and has since been displayed alongside the car until it was finally re-installed in 2017. Shortly thereafter, it was consigned to Bonhams for their January 2019 Bonhams Scottsdale Auction.
