Chassis:
One of a pair of Giovanni Michelotti designed Spiders built on the 1200 Sport chassis, this example was completed in time for the 1955 Brussels Motor Show. It was finished in an attractive light blue body with a dark blue interior. Following its show duties, chassis 5007 was sold to a Belgian enthusiast. Later in the year, it was entered in the Tour de Belgique Rally with starting number 78. The only left-hand drive Spider remained in Belgium until 1962, when it was acquired by a Dutch collector. Three years later, it was sold to fellow Dutchman Hans Oosterbaan. He was a great Moretti enthusiast and also owned a Vignale Coupe. At that time, it was fitted with a Fiat 1100 engine as the delicate Moretti 'four' had failed. Oosterbaan would own the 1200 Sport Spider for 35 years during which he started the restoration but never got around to completing it. In 2000, the car returned to Belgian ownership and it was carefully restored. The new custodian even managed to track down the original engine in The Netherlands, which was reunited with the car during the restoration process. Following its restoration, it was shown at Pebble Beach in 2017. It was subsequently consigned to the 2019 Bonhams Scottsdale sale.
