Chassis:
Ready in time for the Belgian Grand Prix, this Team Lotus Type 21 was allocated to Innes Ireland. He raced the car in the final rounds of the 1961 season with the exception of the Italian Grand Prix when it was loaned to Rob Walker for Stirling Moss to race. Ireland had little luck with the car until the final round of the world championship at Watkins Glen. Starting eighth, he charged through to score the Type 21's first and only Grand Prix victory. It was then sent to South Africa where it was driven to victory in the Cape Grand Prix by Trevor Taylor; the only F1 win in his career. Chassis 933 was brought back to the factory by Team Lotus and served as a spare through to the end of 1962, when it was offered for sale. It was then acquired by Scottish hill-climber Ray Fielding, who campaigned the car extensively. Later in its hill-climbing career, it was even fitted with an Oldsmobile V8 and Colotti Type 32 gearbox. Subsequent owners campaigned the car well into the 1970 season in hill-climbs and sprints. The ex-Team Lotus then sat for many years until it finally changed hands again in 1988. It was completely restored to its original configuration with the exception of a Hewland gearbox in place of the bespoke ZF unit that is impossible to find. It has since been raced extensively in historic events. In recent years, it has been fielded by Classic Team Lotus for its British owner.
