Chassis:
One of seven Type 57s commissioned at once by Geneva-based dealer Jean Sechaud, this example was sent as a rolling chassis to Swiss coach-builder Graber. Here it became one of a total of nine Type 57s fitted with a Cabriolet body and remarkably each of these has survived. It was sold new by Sechaud to Swiss banker Raymond Barbey. He would use the car only in the summer and owned it through to 1951. The next owner was another client of Sechaud's, biscuit maker George Pertuiset. He also regularly used the car and held on to it until December of 1960. Chassis 57500 was then acquired by Dutch Sculptor August Thomassen, who would own it for nearly five decades. During this period he worked on the car and his other Bugattis himself until ill health prevented him from doing so. Only the third owner from new, Thomassen finally decided to part with it and consigned the Graber Cabriolet to the 2019 Artcurial Retromobile sale.
