Chassis:
The 15th 550A Spyder built, this example was sold new to to Danish entrant Preben Andersen. His Scuderia Palan fielded the car for local hero Julius Voigt-Nielsen, who debuted the car with a victory at Roskilde in April of 1957. Voigt Nielsen scored two more victories that year as well as a pair of third place finishes. Late in 1958, it was sold to Kenyan based British racer John Manussis. His long time navigator Lucille Cardwell raced the car to a pair of victories at the Nakuru Motor Circuit in December of 1961. The following year, she acquired the car from Manussis. Later that decade, it was sold to a Nairobi car dealer, who campaigned the car in local events before eventually selling it on to Italian collector Giuseppe Freschi in 1978. He campaigned the car several times in the Mille Miglia retrospective. It was sold on in 2011 and then changed hands again in 2012, when it was acquired by a Monaco-based Porsche enthusiast. He had the car completely restored over a four-year period. It was then consigned to the 2019 RM Sotheby's Villa Erba sale with just 100 km on the odometer since the restoration.
