Chassis:
The second Type 81 built, this car debuted at the Argentinean Grand Prix in the hands of Mario Andretti. The 1978 World Champion started sixth but was forced to retire with mechanical issues. The car was brought out for every race of the 1980 season, either as a race car for Andretti, De Angelis and Mansell, or a spare. The best result of this chassis in 1980 was a fourth for De Angelis at Watkins Glen. It was then used into the 1981 season by De Angelis and Mansell. Still in JPS colours, it was raced for several years in historic events by German enthusiast Alexander Lienau. In 2015, it was acquired by a collector and racer of historic Lotus machinery. Restored to Essex Petroleum colours, it has since been fielded for him by Classic Team Lotus.
