First raced at the 1980 United States Grand Prix West, this chassis was campaigned primarily by Elio de Angelis. He finished third in non-championship races at Jarama in 1980 and Kyalami in 1981. The best results in the World Championship was a fourth in the Italian Grand Prix with De Angelis at the wheel and a sixth at the United States Grand Prix for Andretti. In 1981, De Angelis also added a pair of fifths and sixth place finish to the car's tally. Restored to Essex Petroleum colours, it was sold at auction in 2006 and has since joined the formidable Lotus collection in the Barber Automotive Museum. (Source: Oldracingcars.com)
