Chassis:
One of as few as four 718 RSKs built with the possibility to run in a conventional off-set or single-seat configuration. It was acquired new by Belgian racer Christian Goethals. He first raced the car in what was then Belgian Congo to record a victory in the Leopoldville Grand Prix beating a Jaguar D-Type, Ferrari 250 TR and Aston Martin DB3S. The car was then raced with considerable success in Europe, South America and again in Africa. It raced through to the end of the 1960 season. What happened after its contemporary racing career is unclear but it eventually re-surfaced in the early 1990s in a Dayton, Ohio garage of a noted hoarder. Remarkably, it was still fitted with its original and very rare Type 547/3 engine. It was then sold to a fellow Ohio-based collector, who had the car restored to full running order. It has since been campaigned in over 100 historic race meetings, including all five Rennsport Reunions. In 2019, it was consigned to the Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction.
