Chassis:
One of 16 examples earmarked for customers during the 1970 season, this example was originally invoiced as a road car to French dealer Sonauto. After its conversion to competition specification, it was sold to noted Canadian gentleman racer Jacques Duval. Shipped to Canada at the start of 1971, it was one of the first 914/6 GTs in North America. It was then raced in the Daytona 24 Hours where it finished seventh overall and placed first in class. Chassis 1017 was then raced to fourth in class at Sebring, it continued to be campaigned for the remainder of the year with considerable success. It was sold on to Porsche enthusiast Jerry Huffman, who in turn sold it to Porsche 914/6 aficionado Gary Wigglesworth, who had seen the car race at Daytona in 1971. He campaigned the car in SCCA autocross events with considerable success. Following an invitation to demonstrate the car at the 1991 Daytona 24 Hours, Wigglesworth decided to restore the car to its original Sunoco colours. The car eventually changed hands again in 2000 and has since been demonstrated at the Rennsport Reunion in 2007 and Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in 2015. At the start of 2020, it was consigned as one of the headliners of the Gooding & Co. Scottsdale Auctions.
