Imported by Luigi Chinetti Motors, and sold through the Carl Haas dealership in Highland Park, Illinois, this is the 31st of 121 Daytona Spiders built. Finished in metallic silver with a black interior, it was acquired new by H.J. Hoff from Norfolk, Virginia. The next custodian was Academy Award winning actor, director and producer Sydney Pollack, who bought the car from Hoff in 1975. Some four years later, it was bought by Mexican Alberto Amezcua. Shortly thereafter, he was strong-armed into signing the title away by another Mexican. The car resurfaced in the United States and when Amezcua got wind of that he hired an attorney and in 1986 managed to get the car back. Now painted black, it remained in his stable until 1998. It then passed through several hands and was comprehensively restored by Vantage Motor Works in 2001. The owner who acquired the car in 2011 held onto it a lot longer but eventually decided to consign the car to the 2020 Gooding Scottsdale Auctions along with several other open Ferraris in his stable.
