For the 1998 season, French Porsche distributor Sonauto Levallois entered a brand new 911 GT2 ('ZWS393002') in the local FFSA GT championship for gentleman racer François Lafon and former Grand Prix racer Jean-Pierre Jarier. The car was impossible to miss as it had been given a striking 'art car' livery by German pop-art artist Peter Klasen. Lafon and Jarier raced this car with great success until it was crashed at the Le Mans Bugatti track in September of 1998. To keep their championship bid going, Lafon immediately ordered a new chassis, ('ZWS393012'), and managed to convince Klasen to once again apply the livery. While restored, the first Klasen GT2 did not receive this colours again.
The 'Klasen 2', as he called it himself, was raced from the final round of the 1998 FFSA GT at Magny Cours. Lafon and Jarier were immediately successful, finishing second in the first race and then winning the second. Chassis ZWS393012 was raced until the end of 1999 by defending champions Lafon and Jarier, winning races at Lédenon, Nogaro and Valencia. Following its contemporary racing career, the rolling piece of art was meticulously preserved in Lafon's personal collection until 2012. It was subsequently given several outings in the Endurance Racing Legends and was also shown at Chantilly before the third owner consigned the car to Paris-based dealer Historic Cars at the start of 2020.
