Chassis:
One of the very last 718 RSKs built, this example was sold new to American Bernie Vihl. He fielded the car for the talented racer Bob Holbert from the spring of 1959. Holbert was hugely successful in SCCA events and also won the 2-litre Governor's Trophy race during the Bahamas Speedweek. Two days later, he also won his class in the Nassau Trophy Race, finishing third overall. Holbert continued to race the car with great success through to the end of the 1960 season. Following its contemporary racing career, it entered longterm ownership in the early 1970s. Preserved in a beautiful original condition, it was offered for sale for the first time in nearly 50 years at the 2020 Bonhams Quail Motorcar Auction. Selling at just over $2.2 million, it was the most expensive car in the sale.
