Chassis:
One of the very first Cobras fitted from new with the '289' engine, this car was completed in the spring of 1963. It was sold to its first owner through Coventry Motors in Walnut Creek, California. The car's early history is not known but the ownership trail can be picked up in the mid-1970s. Robert C. Able from Eugene, Oregon acquired the car in 1974 and had a variety of modifications made. Among them were a more potent quad-carburettor engine and flared wheel arches to accommodate wider tyres. The next long-term custodian was Jim d'Onnofrio, who would own the car for over two decades. It was then acquired by Floridian Bill Bryan in 2003. He entrusted the car to Cobra specialist Mike McCluskey for a complete restoration. The car was returned to its original configuration with a milder engine tune and regular size fenders. Since then, it has been used regularly and was eventually sold by Bryan to allow for him to acquire a 427 Cobra. Early in 2020, it was sold at the RM Sotheby's Palm Beach auction.
