Chassis:
Built ahead of the 1965 season, this is the only one of five GT Roadsters built to be entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Fitted with a 289 V8, it was entered by Ford France in the 1965 edition. Driven by Maurice Trintignant and Guy Ligier, it failed to reach the finish due to a gearbox failure. The car was then shipped to Shelby American, where it was repaired. Chassis GT/109 was subsequently dispatched for Ford's racing subsidiary Kar Kraft. Here it was used as a test mule for the new four-cam Indy engine and an automatic gearbox. Once it had served its purpose, the GT Roadster was returned to Shelby for another rebuilt to its original specification. In 1968, the GT Roadster was acquired by custom car designer and stuntman Dean Jeffries. He would own the car through to his death in 2013. The next custodian was auctioneer Dana Mecum, who had the very rare GT Roadster restored in time for the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where the 50th anniversary of Ford's Le Mans win was celebrated.
