Chassis:
BMW built six right-hand-drive 503s, of which only three were Cabriolets. This example is believed to have been built specifically for AFN ltd., which was the old Frazer Nash company. It was retained by the Aldington family, until they sold their business to Porsche. It was then acquired by John Surtees for his collection. With some help from marque specialists, Surtees set about restoring the car. The legendary two-wheel and four-wheel racer would retain the car until his death. From his estate, it was consigned a few years later to the 2020 Bonhams Goodwood Speedweek sale.
